Famous Name pipped by The Bogberry
by Arthur Sullivan, 07 September 2008

Aidan O'Brien

Aidan O'Brien's The Bogberry was triumphant in the Group 3 At The Races Kilternan Stakes on Sunday at Leopardstown, edging out Dermot Weld's Famous Name, the 2-5 favourite.

The Bogberry, a 9-1 shot, has not featured since a handicap back in June but Colm O'Donoghue rode beautifully on the final stretch to outpace Famous Name.

Weld though, was satisfied with his charge's efforts.

"We had a hold-up with Famous Name after the French Derby and he just got tired," he said.

"If we had been able to get a run into him before today, I think he would have won. That's why we didn't run him in the Champion Stakes.

"I'll discuss with connections where we go next," he added.

Setanta readers' comment of the day

“While all big teams (Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool) were busy protecting their best players, Arsenal was in forefront encouraging injury prone Walcott to participate in that useless freindly. Arsenal has a very thin squad and I remember Walcott said it but Wenger didn't take action to add some players. Arsenal players are not made of steel and Wenger should be prepared for such situation. We need Arsenal supporters on the board of Arsenal who can feel the way we feel when the team is losing and they can force Wenger to buy some experience players. Current board members are only interested in profits yet they (profits) don't go into history of the club”
